Shooting Suspect Captured | News
State police in Susquehanna County have arrested a man wanted for a shooting in New Milford early Friday.
They said they captured Jason Aronowitz Friday night, but would not comment on how they caught him or where. As of 9:30pm, Aronoqwitz was at the state police barracks awaiting arraignment.
Police said the shooting happened a little after 1 a.m. Friday outside the Parkview Hotel and Bar in New Milford.
Aronowitz allegedly shot a man twice at point blank range.
"The guy pulled out a gun out of nowhere and we started to get into a tussle with him, and me and three others of my friends including Michael Reid who got shot," said Vincent Perico.
Investigators said Aronowitz was arguing with several people when Michael Reid and his friends, out to celebrate Reid's recent release from prison, tried to break up the fight.
Reid was taken to a hospital in Syracuse, New York.
"This is the backfire from when the gun went off, like it went right off in my ear, I've been ringing ever since it happened," said Robert Weaver of Susquehanna. He has marks on his neck, marks he said, from when the shots were fired. "That's insane! I mean I moved from Florida, I'm originally from West Palm Beach, Florida to get away from that and it's like Florida again, no lie."
The friends said they grabbed the gun from Aronowitz after the shooting and jumped on top of him, but he got away.
"Mike is a wonderful guy, he really is, I know he just got out of jail, but people do wrong things and stupid things, but he's trying to do right for his kids. He just got out of jail, he wanted to celebrate to have a couple drinks and things just went sour," said Perico.
